Kuwait Hosts Gulf Group Conference on Diabetic Foot, March 2016

Chairwoman of Gulf Group for diabetic foot, Ms. Miniah Mustafa addressed the event pointing out that in 2012 as diabetic foot treatment specialists we noted that there was no common system or approach for the treatment of diabetic foot. So as GCC specialist doctors and medics we agreed to carry out our duties in this regard by creating Gulf Group for Diabetic Foot, including all GCC states initiated by Mrs. Miniah Mustafa from UAE. Participants included Dr. Nashaat Ghanour, S. Arabia, Dr. Saud Al Harithi and Mrs. Ayshah Al Mihrazi, Oman, Dr. Salma Khraibit, Kuwait, and Dr. Talal Al Enizi, Qatar.
It took meetings and events over two years to develop the required plans, objectives, scientific and medical schemes and awareness campaigns as per the requirements of each country, as well as various levels of training courses.
Dr. Talal Al Enizi, Director, Qatar, addressed the reasons for setting up this Group for the benefit of all people suffering diabetic foot complications, and steps which help avert or minimize such complications including amputation. He warned that foot amputation is currently running at the rate of 20 amputations every second around the world.
Dr. Ayseh Al Mihrazi addressed the importance of such events and conferences starting in 2015 in Oman with 400 participants including doctors, medics and specialists.
Dr. Salma Khraibit, Kuwait , Board Member of GCC Group for Diabetic Foot, and chairwoman of the conference held 4 – 5 March, emphasized Kuwait keen interest , represented by Ministry of Health, Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital , in participating in this key event as a necessity. World Health Organization statistics for 2015 found that Kuwait ranks third in diabetes worldwide. Worst of its complications include neurological and blood cycle disorder in the lower limps leading, if neglected, to foot amputation and death.
Dr. Nashaat Ghanour, Member of the Group and representative of S. Arabia stated that the second conference hosted by the State of Kuwait on 4 – 5 March 2016 will include a number of lectures by guest doctors from Egypt, GCC , Asia and America , in addition to Kuwaiti doctors who are participating in this event to exchange experiences and to highlight the role of Kuwait in monitoring such disease through different medical specializations .
Dr. Saoud Al Harithi, Oman, addressed the importance of the role of diabetic doctors and the importance of various medical specializations, and the need to act as one team dealing with diabetic disease and its complications, specially foot ulcer deterioration and neurological disorder, and the need to avert and / or minimize such complications by early check and detection.
Dr. Salma Khraibit, conference chairwoman, wrapped up the conference thanking all participants and all those who contributed to the success of this event delivering a humanitarian scientific awareness message to patients and all concerned with diabetes. She also thanked participant companies for their display of specialized equipment and materials used for the diabetes treatment and its complications, and the preventive role they play. Special thanks and appreciation for Al Sayer Medical for their contribution to the press conference.
In the end, chairwoman of GCC Group, Ms. Miniah Mustafa announced that the next conference is scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, in March 1017, inviting participation by all concerned companies and specialists. She further announced the issue of three medical journals supervised by GCC Group contributed by various world bodies and agencies. She emphasized the need for follow up on GCC Group activities as GCC leader organizing scientific training courses .
