KUWAIT February 11, 2015 – Mohamed Naser Al Sayer & Sons, One of the Al Sayer Group Holding Companies held an official press conference event to launch the all new Lexus NX. The car was revealed by Faisal Bader Al Sayer, Vice Chairman Al Sayer Group Holding, Mubarak Naser Al Sayer, CEO Al Sayer Group Holding, Mark Templin Executive Vice President Lexus International, Takeaki Kato Chief Engineer Lexus NX, Takayuki Yoshitsugu Chief Representative TMC MENARO with accompanying delegates who attended the event. The launch of the all new Lexus NX “the birth of a new star” was witnessed by large number of guests including Ministry Officials, Privileged Lexus Customers and Representatives of the press and media. Later a unveil event for the public was held at the Grand Avenues Mall where the NX will be displayed for one week.
Having pioneered the luxury-utility crossover category more than a decade ago with the original midsized RX 300, Lexus is now poised to disrupt the SUV segment once again with the all-new NX 200t – the brand’s maiden entry into the growing compact crossover segment. Inspired by performance vehicles, the turbocharged NX combines the expertise of racers within the engineering team and the impeccable touch of Lexus luxury through an exciting and sporty design to set a new benchmark in the automotive world.
Following in the tire tracks of the new-generation Lexus GS and IS sedans, the 2015 NX 200t and the F Sport version offer dramatic design alternatives to a segment populated by boxy offerings to reveal the boldest interpretation yet of the signature Lexus spindle grille and L-finesse design.

Looking more sports-car than sport-utility, the NX 200t features numerous firsts in a Lexus, including keyhole-less outside door handle; power reclining and power folding 60:40 split rear seat; cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, a Wireless Charging Tray for compatible phones and devices; the new Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) with a touch pad and a Pre-Load Differential to control differential torque.
Bold and Sporty Styling
The striking angles and smoothly flowing contours of the NX 200t lend it a distinct visual appeal. From its dramatic spindle grille and L-themed headlights to a body that appears carved from a single chunk of metal, there will be no mistaking the NX 200t for anything else in its class. Sculpted to look nimble while hinting at the incredible power concentrated inside, the NX 200t embodies an aggressive form that makes its functionality and higher performance evident at a glance. Front and rear flares fuse with the diamond-shaped body at the spindle grille, and innovative LED headlamps and daytime running lamps firmly express Lexus’ bold design language. A roofline peak towards the back of the vehicle provides ample headroom and accentuates the side profile, creating a tight silhouette. Lexus has designed a new range of 17-inch and optional 18-inch alloy wheels specifically for the NX 200t, with designs that evoke exotic sports cars rather than SUVs. The wheels are housed in bold, flared wheel arches that set the vehicle in a crouching, muscular stance.
The look and feel of Lexus luxury detail begins before you enter the NX 200t. A single LED elegantly streams a welcoming beam of light along the top of the handle and also to the ground as the driver approaches the vehicle. The vehicle also encompasses an innovative outer mirror and a world-first door handle mechanism with hidden key barrel. The gap between the handle and the cover has been eliminated and the keyhole has been removed, realizing a seamless and dynamic design. This keyhole-less construction is a world-first for a straight pull type door handle. A touch sensor type Smart Entry system is available, conveying an excellent appearance and operability compared to a conventional push-button type system and this adds to the luxury appearance.
Stepping into the NX 200t will feel like stepping into a sports car. The cabin design combines structural elements with luxurious yet functional materials and textures. The center console is the undeniable focal point, framed by bold silver-colored architectural elements and featuring kneepads on both sides. Leather-wrapped metal over high contrast metallic colors provides visual depth. The NX 200t dashboard and console continue the Lexus concept of display and operational zones. The seats, inspired by sports car design, coddle driver and passenger as you’d expect from a Lexus.
A neat-looking switch layout and aesthetic surfaces epitomize the NX 200t’s interior concept - “traditional luxury accentuated by simple functional beauty”. Driving-related switches such as the Drive Mode Select switch, VSC OFF switch, and EPB switch are grouped together on the console, enhancing the operability and visual recognition.
Convenience and versatility abound in the NX 200t, which offers a world first with a power folding 60:40 split/recline rear seat. The reclining angle can be adjusted using switches located on the sides of the rear seat. The rear seat can be folded or returned using switches located on the sides of the rear seat, driver seat and inside the luggage compartment.
The cabin design prioritizes seating and interior space. The NX 200t possesses the lowest hip point in the segment, adding to the connection between the driver and the vehicle and increasing overall headroom. The quilted pattern of the seats and varied pad thickness express the crossover intention of the vehicle, while best-in-class luggage load length and rear seat leg space further reflect the NX 200t’s emphasis on functionality and comfort. A luggage area width of 53 inches can accommodate four golf bags stowed sideways, rather than having to lean them against the side. Storage in four compartments beneath the cargo floor provide space for keeping valuables out of sight.
Lexus has added nuance color variations to the lineup for a total of ten colors, including the newly developed Sonic Quartz to create a strongly three-dimensional expression when light hits the surface, further accentuating the condensed impression of the body.
Outstanding Performance
For its first-ever turbocharged gasoline engine, Lexus created an all-new engine architecture. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder port and direct-injection turbo engine uses an advanced valve control system to switch between Atkinson cycle and Otto cycle operation to optimize performance. The new engine was tested extensively on various road conditions and harsh environments, and comes with a world-first combination of water-cooled cylinder head integrated exhaust manifold and twin scroll turbo charger. To minimize turbo lag, the four-into-two exhaust manifold system pairs cylinders according to their expansion or compression stroke to reduce pumping losses and eliminate exhaust gas interference. This results in improved acceleration response and wide torque band. The turbo engine produces 235 hp at 4800 - 5,600 rpm with35.7 kg-m of torque from 1,650-4,000 rpm. Combining the cylinder head, exhaust manifold and intercooler with variable wastegate control also enhances low speed torque fuel economy.
The NX 200t has been designed for handling stability, turning posture and ride comfort. The vehicle employs specialized Lexus manufacturing techniques such as body adhesives and laser-screw welding to improve the rigidity of the suspension system as well as the body, enhancing overall driving performance. The Drive Mode Select dial on the center console lets the NX 200t driver tailor the vehicle’s responses and driving feel to suit driving conditions or just the driver’s mood. The system adjusts parameters for multiple systems, including throttle response and the power steering assist curve.
The engineering team’s racing experience comes through in the way the Lexus NX 200t handles curves and bumps. A newly developed shock absorber, capable of controlling even the smallest micro-level fluctuations, contributes to excellent stability and ride comfort. Additionally, the NX 200t features a new Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) that is capable of variable control in 30 stages.
The NX 200t with all-weather drive introduces Dynamic Torque Control AWD to provide maximum traction and cornering stability. The system continuously controls torque transfer between the front and rear wheels, using sensors for vehicle speed, steering angle, steering speed, throttle angle and yaw rate.
For the first time, a pre-loaded front differential (and yaw rate feedback control on AWD versions) ensures optimum grip, control and agility. Under light loads, and when there is a low speed difference between the left and right wheels during cornering, the pre-loaded differential ensures straight-line stability and acceleration performance. At higher speeds, it operates as an open differential.
Best-in-class Technology
The NX 200t’s array of technology innovations sets new standards for future Lexus models. The NX 200t features the first application of a new Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) with a touch pad, letting the driver access various functions without changing the driving position or taking the eyes away from the view in front of the vehicle. For zero-distraction, the front-seat passenger can also easily operate the RTI.
A highly visible and easy-to-understand navigation screen enables users to confirm a range of information at a glance. The navigation system’s convenience enables audio and other information to be displayed on a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display in the meter.
The NX 200t is the first Lexus to offer a Qi Wireless Charging Tray inside the console box: just placing a compatible smartphone or tablet in the tray will recharge its battery. The charger can be turned on or off by pressing the power button. When a Qi compatible mobile device is placed in the charging area, charging begins and the indicator color changes from green (standby) to amber. When charging is complete, the indicator color changes from amber to green.
Having reset expectations for premium mobile audio decades ago, Lexus melds that tradition with the needs of today’s digital audio formats with the new NX 200t. The standard Lexus Premium Audio system uses an eight-channel amplifier with a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to restore high notes lost through compression. The Lexus NX 200t is also available with a Mark Levinson premium surround sound system which features a 12 channel amplifier to drive 14 ultra-high efficiency speakers that generate outstanding output with concert hall-quality sound. The auto volume system automatically adjusts the audio system volume to complement the genre of each song as it is played. The display audio includes HD Radio™, Bluetooth® audio, automatic phone book transfer.
The Lexus NX 200t is also available with a color head-up display which projects a range of frequently checked information on the lower windshield glass in the driver’s line of sight, including vehicle speed, tachometer, audio system, navigation system and more.
Advanced Safety Features
The Lexus NX 200t comes with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features. The Panoramic View Monitor, introduced into a Lexus vehicle for the first time, helps the driver avoid other vehicles and pedestrians approaching from the sides. This system combines video from four cameras mounted to the front and rear sides of the vehicle, offering a view of everything happening around the car, including in blind spots. The display is automatically adjusted based on gear-stick operation, with the system able to display enlarged views from above the vehicle. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with All-speed Tracking Function maintains inter-vehicle distance within a set speed and supports the driver by detecting the vehicle ahead and ensuring that an appropriate distance is maintained from cruising speeds down to a stop. Also offered on the NX 200t is the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and the Lane Departure Alert that warns the driver when it determines that the vehicle is about to veer from a traffic lane.
Frontal and side collision protection measures on the NX 200t include the use of high tensile steel, across the center-pillar hinge reinforcement, outer rockers and roof cross-members. In a collision, energy from a side impact is transmitted to the floor through a structure of cross-members built into the rocker beneath the center B-pillar. The rear impact structure disperses offset collision energy to the main chassis members on both sides of the vehicle.
The NX 200t has eight SRS airbags, including a dual stage driver’s airbag and knee airbag, dual-stage and dual-chamber front passenger airbag, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags, and offers the Lexus Pre-Collision Safety System (PCS) which uses the all-speed Adaptive Cruise Control system’s millimeter-wavelength radar sensor to detect vehicles and other obstacles.
F SPORT
The F SPORT variant promises a special driving experience with its aggressive looks such as a grille that’s even bolder than on the standard model. The L-mesh black grille integrates with a metallic coated lower bumper molding, and black side mirrors match the grille. Exclusive wheels, cabin styling and trim and bolstered sports seats add to the F SPORT repertoire in the NX 200t.
How much added sportiness you want in the F SPORT ride depends on the wheels you choose. A 10-spoke 18-inch alloy design combines black paint on the lateral edges with a luminous machine-brushed finish and features 225/60R18 all-season tires. The second design, with a dark metallic finish and high-gloss Y-shaped spokes, uses lower profile 235/55R18 summer tires.
Body-hugging, quilted NuLuxe seats are exclusive in the F SPORT, which offers an exclusive interior color, Rioja Red. The driver grips a perforated F SPORT steering wheel and brushed metallic gearshift. The unique instrumentation and drilled non-slip aluminum pedals and footrest were inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar. The tachometer red line is even more clearly marked in this model.
The NX 200t F SPORT is also available exclusively with a Multi Information Display which heightens your driving experience by displaying a G sensor with steering angle, accelerator opening and brake hydraulic pressure bars in addition to a turbo boost meter with oil temperature and pressure gauges.
The F SPORT also features Active Sound Control (ASC) to enhance the auditory experience. The engine note volume resonating through the cabin can be adjusted when the driver turns on ASC.
